A Survey on FPGA-based Heterogeneous Clusters Architectures

In recent years, the most powerful supercomputers have already reached megawatt power consumption levels, an important issue that challenges sustainability and shows impossibility of maintaining this trend. To date, prevalent approach to super-computing is dominated by CPUs GPUs. Given their fixed architectures with generic instruction sets, they been favored lots tools mature workflows which led mass adoption further growth. However, reconfigurable hardware such as FPGAs has repeatedly proven it offers substantial advantages over concerning performance consumption. survey, we review relevant works advanced field heterogeneous using focusing on architectural characteristics. Each work was divided into three main parts: network, hardware, software tools. All implementations face involve all parts. These dependencies result in compromises designers must take account. The limitations each are discussed compared detail. classification study illustrate trade-offs solutions help identify open problems research lines.
